About The Ride
Moonlight Madness
The Kaiser Permanente Moonlight Classic is a 15-mile or 8 mile, non-competitive late night charity bike ride through Denver’s historic neighborhoods. Benefiting Seniors Inc - Seniors Inc. is a 39-year-old non-profit agency dedicated to helping Colorado’s elderly and their personal independence.
Start - Colorado State Capitol
The Kaiser Permanente Moonlight Classic will start and finish at the foot of Colorado’s most recognizable landmark — The Colorado State Capitol in downtown Denver.
The 15-mile and 8-mile cut off courses will tour landmarks, new and old. Including, the Denver business district, Lower Downtown and the Cherry Creek shopping district. All will seem very different by the light of the moon.
Registration and the 180 Energy Drink After Hours Cycling Bash will take place on Saturday night from 8:30 p.m. to 11:30 p.m.
Start Waves!
There will be just two large waves - the early Family Wave for riders who want to still get a little sleep when they finish and the Gonzo Wave for those who want to enjoy the true nocturnal spendor of Denver.
We recommend that cyclists choose a wave that includes riders who are likely to pedal at a similar speed and mentality to your own.

Gonzo Wave 11:30 p.m. start

Rules of the Road
As you can imagine, from 10:30 PM till 2 AM in the morning the automobile traffic will be light. However the course will be open to cars as well. Riders will need to show caution. Here are a few tips for safe moonlight riding:
» All bikes MUST be equipped with a front and rear light.
» Bicycles should also have BOTH front and rear reflectors for visibility.
» Helmets are required for cyclists and their child passengers.
» Ride slower and more cautiously than you would by daylight.
» Darkness tends to impair depth perception and the hazards will be more difficult to see.
» Obey all traffic signs and lights.
» Follow the instructions of the Denver Police Officers and the safety course marshals.
» Ride in the same direction as the automobile traffic.
» Stay on the right side of the street: ride no more than two abreast.
» It's always a good idea to wear white or light- colored clothing for visibility.
» Bike strollers should have reflectors and vertical flags.
» Children under the age of 17 must be accompanied by a responsible adult. |
